Terms of Use

Last updated: April 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the IsQRSecure application ("the App") or accessing the IsQRSecure website at isthisqrsecure.com ("the Website"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the App or Website.

2. Nature of the Service

IsQRSecure is a free, educational tool designed to help users assess the safety of QR codes before visiting the URLs behind them. The App provides a self-assessment framework based on user-answered questions and automated URL analysis. It does not guarantee the detection of phishing, malware, or any other malicious content.

The App and Website are provided for educational and informational purposes only. They are not a substitute for professional cybersecurity advice, enterprise security solutions, or common sense when browsing the internet.

3. No Warranty

The App and Website are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, or non-infringement.

The developer makes no warranty that the App or Website will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that any defects will be corrected. The developer makes no warranty regarding the accuracy or reliability of any information obtained through the App or Website.

4. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the developer shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, loss of goodwill, personal injury, or any other damages arising out of or in connection with the use of, or inability to use, the App or Website.

This limitation applies regardless of whether the damages are based on warranty, contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or any other legal theory, and whether or not the developer has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

5. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the developer, Jake Ives, from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the App or Website, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of any third party.

6. User-Submitted Content

The App allows users to report URLs they believe to be suspicious. These reported URLs are displayed publicly on the Website's community reports page and may be shared with other app users through the live threat feed.

By submitting a URL report, you acknowledge that the URL will be included in a publicly visible database. Only the URL is submitted. No personal data, device information, or other identifying information is collected or displayed.

The developer does not moderate, verify, or endorse any user-submitted URLs. The community reports page is an unmoderated, live feed of user submissions. The developer is not responsible for the content of any submitted URLs, including any offensive, inappropriate, or misleading content they may contain.

While automated filters are in place to block submissions containing known offensive language, these filters cannot catch all variations and the developer makes no guarantee that all inappropriate content will be prevented.

7. Self-Assessment Verdicts

The safety verdicts provided by the App (Safe, Caution, Dangerous) are based on the user's own answers to awareness questions and automated URL pattern analysis. These verdicts are self-assessments and do not constitute professional security analysis. A verdict of "Safe" does not guarantee that a URL is safe, and a verdict of "Dangerous" does not confirm that a URL is malicious.

Users are solely responsible for their own decisions when choosing to visit any URL, regardless of the verdict provided by the App.

8. Threat Lists and Indicators

The App includes bundled threat indicator lists and, optionally, a live threat list downloaded from external sources (GitHub and isthisqrsecure.com). These lists are maintained on a best-effort basis and may contain false positives or miss genuine threats. The developer accepts no liability for the accuracy or completeness of these lists.

9. No Professional Advice

Nothing in the App or on the Website constitutes professional cybersecurity, legal, or financial advice. If you believe you have been the victim of a phishing attack or cybercrime, contact your IT department, bank, or relevant authorities directly.

10. Independent Project

IsQRSecure is an independent personal project by Jake Ives. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any company, organisation, or employer that Jake Ives works for or is associated with.

11. No Support Obligation

The developer does not provide technical support, maintenance, or updates as an obligation. Any updates or improvements released are at the sole discretion of the developer.

12. External Links

The App and Website may contain links to third-party websites and resources (including YouTube, LinkedIn, and the App Store). The developer has no control over and accepts no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party websites or services.

13. Changes to These Terms

The developer reserves the right to modify these Terms of Use at any time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App or Website after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms of Use shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

16. Contact

For questions about these Terms of Use, you may reach out via the LinkedIn profile linked in the App's About section.
